In the crucible of the 1970s, Bermuda stood at a dramatic geopolitical crossroads, fractured by civil unrest, a surging labor movement, and the shocking assassination of its British Governor. Led by an investigative journalist, this long-form cinematic documentary uncovers the hidden political architecture of a turbulent decade that reshaped the island’s identity forever.
The project enters active production backed by an invaluable foundational archive of twenty-two exclusive, long-form interviews recorded during critical investigative windows in 2004, 2006, and 2015.
Preserving the perspectives of ten now-deceased historical figures, this time-locked field research will be integrated with an upcoming series of new interviews and declassified colonial files to bring a definitive history to the global stage.

About the Director
Ayo Johnson is a filmmaker and award-winning investigative journalist who spent twenty years holding political leaders accountable and reporting on public-interest stories in Bermuda. He served as the lead government and politics reporter for the island's sole national daily newspaper before launching his own independent media outlet dedicated to accountability journalism.
This Island’s Mine marks his feature directorial debut, serving as the cinematic culmination of a twenty-year investigative journey started in 2004.
He holds an international human rights law certificate from Oxford University, an MSc from School of Oriental and African Studies, and previously served as an Executive Officer for the Bermuda Human Rights Commission and as a Board Member of Amnesty International.
Following a successful track record advising public sector leaders as a senior strategic communications consultant, he is now running Hanging Buck Productions Ltd full-time, leveraging deep institutional trust to execute this expanding historical film for a global audience.
